Alcohol’s Effects on Health | National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) (nih.gov)
This week, your writing assignment is simple. First, read the article titled “Seven lessons of prohibition”, then watch the two short Ted Talks that are attached to this assignment (quite interesting I might add). Then, using the link from NIAAA, take a look at their website which shares information about alcohol, its effect on the body/health, and statistics about alcohol use in our society. Think about the extreme regulation of alcohol use which was “Prohibition” and then think of the opposite where there would be no regulation on alcohol use whatsoever. Where do you fall on this continuum? Would you go back to the days of “Prohibition”? Why or why not? Write a 2-page reflection about this topic and incorporate what you learned from the attached materials.

Introduction
It is not well known when exactly humans started brewing alcohol, but it is dated that humans started taking alcohol in 7000 BC in china. Some animals such as monkeys and elephants were the first to experience the effects of fermented fruits such as the Amarula fruits they love eating. This fruit does not only give them nutrients but it has some bacteria that help the fruit ferment thus having certain alcoholic content (Phillips, 2020). Immediately after consuming these fruits and others, the animals would feel the effects of what we call alcohol and they ended up loving such fruits so much.
Same case for humans, since they knew how to ferment alcohol from various plants such as grains, honey, grapes, rice, etc. they learned the art until they discovered a high content of alcohol than the fermented. The advantage of the high alcohol that was distilled instead of fermented is that it would not go bad or rot. This gave the humans a chance to always be merry now and then and also to store the alcohol.
In America, citizens were used to alcohol in such a way that they would abuse it instead of using it for leisure. Religion argued that alcohol makes a man sin more, and feminists or women argued that huge consumption caused men to be irresponsible.
