Engaging teachers in a conversation about students’ academic success and well-being is a critical component of effective educational leadership that will lead to the development and support of intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Interview two teachers, ideally from two different school settings (e.g., public, charter, private). Ask each teacher about:

• Instructional challenges and curricular demands of one core content area or grade level.
• Methods for planning lessons, and the lesson planning tools they use.
• Strategies for differentiating instruction for all students.
• Strategies for utilizing technology to support diverse students.
• The ways in which the curriculum and instruction is related to the school’s vision and mission and Continuous Improvement Plan.
• The support and guidance they receive from their administrators and any additional assistance they would like (if applicable).

In addition, review at least one lesson plan and one supplemental material from each teacher that aligns to the school’s curriculum plan and/or the state’s academic standards, and reflect how each supports the teacher’s ability to meet the needs of all students.

Use any remaining field experience hours to observe and/or assist the principal mentor.

Complete a 250-500 word reflection on your experiences. Incorporate PSEL Standard 2 into your reflection, along with any additional PSEL standards you feel apply, and describe how you will apply what you have learned to your future professional practice.
