1. The following case study assignment will help you recognize the difference between the studium and the punctum, and practise Sontag’s “photographic seeing.”

3. To complete your Case Study, write a paper of 1000 words covering all of the following topics: 
   1. Choose one photograph that was taken by a well-known photographer in the Twentieth Century (i.e. 1900 to 1999). Identify your chosen photograph by title, photographer, year, and image source, and briefly explain the reasons for your choice. Be sure to include an image of your selected photograph with your essay, not just a link to the image online.In your opinion, what is the studium of the photograph? What is the punctum? Be sure to justify your answers with reference to Barthes.Practice Sontag’s “photographic seeing” by looking beyond the initial image to the context in which the photograph was taken, relevant historical and social events, related photography movements, and any other significant meanings. This task should take up at least half of your total case study.
   
   Avoid PlagiarismMake sure to carefully review and follow Humber College’s guidelines for avoiding plagiarism. As a tool to help you improve the integrity of your written work, your report will be checked using the SafeAssign tool in Blackboard. Your references will be flagged in the report, but this is not a problem. You can resubmit your report as many times as you wish, before the final project deadline, but only the final copy will be graded.

The written report on your selected species should be submitted ONLY to Blackboard in the Assignments folder, and NOT by email. Emailed projects will NOT be accepted for grading. The report MUST be submitted in a Word format (.doc, .docx) so it can be properly run through the SafeAssign software. Please remember to include your name and page numbers on your essay.______
